John Bogle thinks the economic recession may last another 2 years

John Bogle, the founder of Vanguard Group, said in an interview to Bloomberg that given the stock market declines, he expects the economic recession to last another 2 years. He also thinks that we may be at the stock market lows finally.

This is in contrast to the Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke who indicated that in his view the recession will likely end in the 2nd half of 2009 and the economy should start growing again.

Either way, many stock investors may be asking the question whether it is time now to start buying stocks. We think buying carefully selected stocks ( or a well diversified basket of stocks) at the time when the prices are low is always a good idea provided you have time to ride out the volatility.

I think John is closer to the truth. Unless something major happens, it won’t dissolve in the next few months.
