Money you added to your IRA that was post-tax is pro-rated when you convert, e.g. if your IRA totals $50,000 and you have $25,000 in post tax money tracked via form 8606, 50% of the conversion is taxed, you can&#039;t pick and choose. But - if you have a 401(k) whose investment choices are appealing and fees are low, you can roll the pretax IRA portion into that 401(k) if your employer allows. Then the full conversion to the Roth is only post tax money and &#039;zero&#039; tax is due on conversion. Sweet.
