Headaches to Hiccups: 7 Home Remedies that Work

You know that there are some all natural remedies that can help you improve your health, and fight disease. However, there are a number of other little annoyances and conditions that can cause discomfort. Most of us know about home cold remedies like chicken soup, but there are more.

Do home remedies work? There are a number of claims for home remedies that can cure everything from headaches to warts to hiccups, without you having to go to the doctor or take some pill. Some of these remedies are just myths that hold no true efficacy. On the other hand, though, there are some home remedies that are simple and effective, and that can provide you with relief and good health.

Here are 7 Home Remedies that Really Work

  1. Sugar for hiccups: Sugar is good for more than helping the medicine go down. It can also help you get rid of hiccups. Forget holding your breath or sticking your fingers in your ears. A clinical trial showed that a eating a teaspoon of straight sugar stopped hiccups for most of those involved.
  2. Help for headaches: If you have a friend or life partner that you trust, he or she can help with tension headaches – no drugs needed. Have your partner cup his or her hands behind your head as you lie on your back. Your partner’s thumbs should be placed beneath your jaw. Without twisting, and with a gentle motion, he or she should pull. This can reduce your headache quickly.
  3. Duct tape for warts: Duct tape isn’t just for home projects. It can actually help you cure warts. The Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine reported on a study that showed that duct tape could be more effective than having it frozen off. Put a small patch of duct tape over the wart. If it falls off, replace it quickly. After six days, soak the wart in water and then use a pumice stone or emery board to rub it. Repeat the process until the wart falls off.
  4. Acupressure for nausea: You don’t need to go to a specialist to use acupressure to help relieve nausea. You can perform this simple home remedy on yourself: Turn your wrist upward, taking your thumb between the two main tendons that go from your wrist to your elbow. Put a significant amount of pressure on a point two or three finger widths from the base of your wrist. This is best for mild nausea.
  5. Epsom salts for splinters: While you can use tweezers (which work better than a needle) to pull out splinters close to the surface, Epsom salts can help you remove deeper problems. Put two cups of Epsom salt into a gallon of water, and then soak a compress in it. Apply the soaked compress to the affected area. It should draw the splinter closer to the surface, where it can be grabbed by a pair of tweezers.
  6. Saline nasal rinse for allergies: If you have allergies (like I do), you can use a saline nasal rinse to reduce their intensity. You can get a large squeeze bottle to hold the solution. Take one quart of distilled water or (cooled) boiled water and add two or three teaspoons of non-iodized salt and one teaspoon of baking soda. Put eight ounces into your squeeze bottle. Tilt your head sideways over the sink and squeeze the solution into one nostril, and let it drain out the other. Panting helps you avoid feeling like you’re drowning.
  7. Honey for burns: Forget about slathering butter (really, forget it) on burns. Instead, consider adding honey. Manuka honey is the best for this, since it is medicinal. Consider organic honey found at natural food stores. Use it on mild to moderate burns (get medical help for severe burns) to help the burn heal up to five days faster. Honey can also be used to help relieve coughing in those over the age of one. You can also use cool (not cold) running water to help with burns. Don’t use ice.

I use a neti pot occasionally for my sinuses and I always fell like it helps!

to cure hiccups, i used to hold my breathe and drink liters of water but it never seemed to work. Next time, i will use the sugar and see it for my self
