For us camping and fishing go hand-in-hand. If we have the money we also like to rent a boat for part of the time. The kids love driving the boat more than fishing!

I also agree about getting a spot that has running water. No power is one thing, but clean water is a must. Great post, thanks.

I’d just like to suggest buying kids binoculars as well. We found some reasonable quality ones for cheap and the kids love ‘em. A shade tent is another good idea that we were told about. We went and got ourselves a 3Mx3M with a flyscreen all around. Very nice to hang around in and much cooler than the inside of a tent.

Those are some great tips! I grew up camping and loved it. Of course my parents had a small camper. My husband and I have a tent. Kids are not partial to it but they live with it.

I do like the tip about keeping it close to home. Kids don’t do well with exhausting long drives. And the backpack idea is great, too. Helps to keep the kids occupied.

Oh ya, kids love to make smores over an open fire. Heck I still love it!

Also, consider the durability and functionality of the tent. If it rains you want a tent that will be able to withstand the elements.

One thing you can consider is renting out a cabin. Many have kitchens and possibly even bathrooms in them. No, it’s not camping under the stars so much but you’re still outdoors and you can keep the kids safer.
