Thank you for this wonderful information. Keeping fit and healthy, by exercising frequently and eating smaller, nourishing meals several times a day - is a great way to have good health for many, many years.

Another myth is that you need 40 minutes of continuous exercise for if to be beneficial. If you got 4 - 10 minute workouts a day, you would be getting all the benefits of exercise.

Good one. However, I disagree with #5. I did an experiment in <a href="http://www.financialsamurai.com/2009/07/25/losing-your-way-to-more-money/" rel="nofollow">"Losing Your Way To More Money"</a> and I found that you don't have to excercise one bit!

It's all about the diet!

Thanks for adding that, Laurie! You make a good point. Warming up is different from stretching. @MySensei: Core exercises can help build muscle, and strengthen you to better support yourself down the road. It is always a good thing to have lean muscle as opposed to fat.

Great article with good info for those starting a new fitness or weight-loss program.

May I add one thing? Although it isn't recommended that you stretch cold muscles before weight-lifting, it is recommended that you warm up your muscles with about ten minutes of aerobic activity. This increases the blood flow to the muscles that you're going to be stressing, which can help prevent injury. Some health professionals have also suggested that if you finish the workout with some light aerobic activity, it will help muscles recover more quickly so that there's less stiffness and pain the day after.

Thanks!

Laurie

Thanks for sharing! I always thought crunches were the sole way to make my tummy flat...I was sorely mistaken. Core exercises helped me out immensely in toning my mid section. Definitely paired with cardio/weight training I saw a huge difference.
