Carnival of Wealth #24 – Feb 06 2011 Edition

Welcome to the February 6, 2011 edition of Carnival of Wealth.

Watching the biggest advertising event of the year (here in the United States), called Super Bowl, not for the first time I am struck by the observation that many of these brands have spent millions of dollars for their slots only to fill it with totally forgettable ads. Do these ads work? Well, they worked for GoDaddy and CareerBuilder. Millions of eyeballs stuck to the TV, and for a change actually watching the ads, is a major opportunity for the advertisers – put your best ad forward.

LivingSocial totally one-upped Groupon.

On the plus side, I was blown away with Motorola Xoom “1984” ad. Very subtle, direct, complex and elegant. Think George Orwell, Apple’s Big Brother ad (1984), the white iPods, the herd and you get the idea. I am sure Android’s flower in response to Apple’s hammer was a reflection of the “Do No Evil” principle.

Here are the selected Carnival submissions for your enjoyment.
